Baby Gender Predictor

A playful look at the traditional Chinese gender chart — enter the mother's age at conception and the conception month to see what the old folklore predicts. Just for fun!

Your age on the day of conception.
Not sure? Use your estimated ovulation month.

For entertainment only — this folklore chart has no scientific basis. It cannot determine your baby's sex.

How the prediction works

The traditional Chinese gender chart is a 28 × 12 grid: the mother's lunar age at conception (18–45) down one side, the lunar month of conception (1–12) across the top. Where your row and column meet, the cell says boy or girl.

  • Simplified mapping used here — lunar age = your age + 1, lunar month = the calendar month of conception. We state this openly: fully traditional conversion to the Chinese lunar calendar (which starts each year between January 21 and February 20) can shift the answer by a row or column.
  • Accuracy — about 50%, no better than a coin toss. A Swedish study of 2.84 million births and a Turkish study of 17,580 births both found the chart agreed with the baby's actual sex at chance level.
  • For fun only — different websites circulate slightly different chart versions, so two predictors can disagree for the same dates. Treat the answer as a party game, never as information.

Only medical tests — ultrasound or NIPT (cell-free DNA screening) — can determine a baby's sex, and they are performed for health reasons.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Chinese gender chart accurate?

No better than a coin toss — about 50%. Three published studies covering roughly 2.9 million births found the chart agreed with the baby's actual sex at chance level. Claims of 70% or 90% accuracy on some websites are not backed by data.

How does the chart work?

It crosses the mother's age at conception with the month of conception on a 28-row grid (ages 18–45 × 12 months); the intersecting cell says boy or girl. This calculator uses a simplified mapping — lunar age = your age + 1 and lunar month = the calendar month of conception — and says so openly. Fully traditional conversion to the Chinese lunar calendar can shift the answer by a row or column.

Can I use it to plan for a boy or a girl?

No. Studies show the chart has no predictive value, so timing conception by its rows changes nothing. It should not influence any decision about a pregnancy — treat it as a party game.

Is it legal to find out my baby's sex?

In India, prenatal sex determination is illegal under the PCPNDT Act. This tool cannot determine sex anyway — only medical tests like ultrasound or NIPT can, and those are performed for health reasons, not curiosity.
