How the comparison works
The calculator compares your measurements against the most-cited clinical reference: Veale et al., published in BJU International (2015) — a systematic review of 20 studies covering 15,521 men, measured by health professionals rather than self-report.
- Average erect length: 13.12 cm (5.16 in)
- Average erect girth: 11.66 cm (4.59 in)
Your percentile is estimated with a normal-distribution (z-score) model fitted to the study means and standard deviations. For example, being at the 60th percentile for length means roughly 60% of the study population measured at or below your size. The study used bone-pressed length measured along the top of the shaft in a clinical setting, which is the standard researchers use.
Measuring tip: measure when fully erect — length along the top of the shaft from the pubic bone to the tip, and girth (circumference) around the middle of the shaft with a soft tape measure.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the average penis size figures come from?
They come from Veale et al., published in BJU International in 2015 — a systematic review of 20 studies covering 15,521 men. Mean erect length was 13.12 cm (5.16 in) and mean erect girth was 11.66 cm (4.59 in). It remains the most widely cited clinical reference.
How should I measure correctly?
Measure when fully erect: length along the top of the shaft from the pubic bone (press gently into the fat pad) to the tip, and girth around the middle of the shaft with a soft, flexible tape measure. Use the same method each time for consistency.
How accurate is the percentile ranking?
The percentile is an estimate. It uses a normal-distribution (z-score) model fitted to the study averages, but real populations vary, and the original study samples were not perfectly representative of all ethnicities and age groups.
What if my result is below average?
About half of all men are below average by definition, and research shows most men overestimate what is typical. Size rarely affects sexual satisfaction or function. If you have concerns, speak with a healthcare professional — they hear this question often.
